What inspired you to become a mentor with the TRIEC Mentoring Partnership (TMP) Program?

Canada is a great country, and the only way we can elevate ourselves further as a nation is to have a more innovative and productive population. TRIEC, being the largest organization in its space in the commercial hub of Canada, provides me with a unique opportunity to contribute to this objective by supporting the assimilation of new immigrants and helping them become productive more quickly.

Is there a story or moment from your mentoring experience that has stayed with you — something that reminded you why this work matters?

There are innumerable stories that I can share, but one that stands out the most is my first one, where I realized that we, as people, all we want is to add value and have a positive impact around us.

How has mentoring impacted you in your own professional journey?

Both my professional and personal journey have been positively impacted through mentoring. On one hand, it has helped me gain more clarity on what’s important, and on the other hand, provided me with tools that have been refined through years of mentoring, which I can not only share with others but also use myself.

What would you say to other individuals to encourage them to become mentors in the program?

Becoming a mentor is a privilege, as it not only helps one lead a purposeful and fulfilling life but also fosters personal growth through the opportunity to develop as a leader, gain fresh perspectives, and experience the fulfillment of empowering others to reach their full potential.

What have you learned from the newcomers you’ve mentored?

Mentoring newcomers has taught me invaluable lessons about fresh perspectives, adaptability, curiosity, and resilience, while highlighting the importance of continuous learning, empathy, and the power of approaching challenges with a beginner’s mindset.

In one sentence, how would you describe the impact of mentorship?

The impact of mentorship has been immense, as it has not only facilitated a mutual growth journey but also provided my mentees with the guidance and confidence they need to succeed. Still, it has also helped me develop leadership skills, perspective, and fulfillment from empowering others.
