WoodGreen is one of the largest social service agencies in Toronto, delivering integrated programs from physical, mental health and disability services to affordable housing and pathways to employment. For 85 years, we have worked with communities to improve health and wellbeing for seniors, single mothers, newcomers, and youth, creating new opportunities to thrive. We have over 600 employees. WoodGreen has been working with TRIEC for just under 3 years (between the TRIEC Mentoring Program and the Mentoring Pathways to Employment Program).
Clients can receive support from settled immigrants who have the lived experience of what new immigrant jobseekers are going though. Mentors support clients in navigating their career fields from the Canadian context to achieve meaningful work.
We have received very positive feedback from our clients. One of the most recent testimonials:
“The Mentoring program is an excellent initiative which introduced me to a competent mentor who ensured regular sessions of meaningful knowledge sharing and networking sessions”.
We have many success stories. One of our success stories is one client that was a Harvard graduate. She was having a lot of trouble obtaining work. This really effected her confidence, as she thought, with the education and experience that she had, it would be easy to start her Canadian career. She was connected with a job coach and a mentor which she described as empowering. With her mentor and job coach, she was able to regain her confidence and find meaningful employment.
Partnership with TRIEC is very meaningful for us. It supports in taking care of a crucial part of immigrant support (mentorship) while WoodGreen focuses on Job Readiness and counselling. It supports in providing an important component in our wrap-around service approach.
The TRIEC Mentoring program takes away the group work of sourcing and matching clients with mentors. They are the subject matter expert and many of our clients benefitted/continue to benefit from the program and service model.
