“I bring lots of diverse experience to Canada from China. Back home I taught English at universities and colleges, and was also an editor and director of a daily newspaper. I think newcomers need to understand how they can translate their relevant experience to landing a professional job in Canada.”

Why Canada?

Canada is a land of opportunities. I firmly believe that I can explore different opportunities to better myself and as a result, contribute to Canadian society.

My international advantage

My credentials, qualifications and experience are all assets. I believe that I can add value through my past teaching and media experience.

What I learned from my mentor

My mentor, an instructor from Sheridan College, helped me tailor my resume. She helped me with my job search skills and the ability to build a network with college contacts.

My breakthrough moment

With the help of The Mentoring Partnership program, coupled with my Canadian credentials, I was amongst the first cohort of the College Teacher Training Program at George Brown College. I became a professor at George Brown, teaching personal and career development, as well as math and cost controls for hospitality and culinary arts students.

Why I returned to become a mentor

Most skilled immigrants have the potential to achieve success in Canada. I was fortunate to get the help I needed and now I want to give back to help more international professionals realize their potential.
