Architecture is part of a city’s art and soul. Good examples of this in the Greater Toronto region are the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Pearson Airport’sTerminal 1. TRIEC Mentoring Partnership is pleased to have Antamex Industries ULC who contributed to these landmarks by applying their curtain wall system, a green technique in architecture, onboard as a program partner since July 2019. We connected with Antamex to learn more about their cultural diversity and business evolution, as well as what motivated them to sign up as an employer partner with the TRIEC Mentoring Partnership.

Mentorship is a two-way street
Founded in 1969 and headquartered in Vaughan in the northern GTA, Antamex is a curtain wall system company that provides the design, engineering, manufacturing and installation of linear facades with more than 700 major projects to their name. They employ 250 staff members and more than 100 ironworkers across project sites in North America.
“We instantly recognized the program as a long-term strategic partner for maximizing our triple bottom line initiative: People + Planet + Profit,” Ryan Spurgeon, President, Antamex Industries ULC says. The management team identified the program as a development pipeline for their own emerging leaders by enhancing their skills in mentoring and coaching.
“Mentorship is a two-way street. While we may give back and provide individuals with a mentorship opportunity, our organization benefits by gaining new perspectives, global touchpoints and ideas through conversation that can be brought back to the frontline and boardroom,” Spurgeon adds.
The first cohort of Antamex’s volunteer mentors has been actively mentoring newcomers who came to Canada with valuable experience in high-demand professions such as civil engineering, manufacturing operations, project management, construction and supply chain management and administration.
Cultural diversity & business evolution
As a company founded by first generation immigrants and with a diverse team across their global footprint, Antamex considers its hiring system of balancing established and newcomer staff as “a phenomenal platform” to stay true to their roots and to respond to the evolution of the marketplace. Their iconic towers stand in Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary in Canada, New York, Boston, Miami, Chicago, Washington in the US, London in the UK and Hong Kong in China.
“Over our 50-year history, we have seen many new-to-Canada Antamex staff take on ever increasing departmental leadership and executive’s roles across our organization. A healthy mix of local knowledge and an influx of global talent at all levels has made our organization stronger and more well-rounded to deal with evolution in markets, disruption and industry trends,” Spurgeon explains.
To their management team, he says participation in the TRIEC Mentoring Partnership is “a small investment” that makes up a broader plan to be more efficient or retain a new perspective. “The time and effort to support TRIEC Mentoring Partnership can open countless doors that may directly or indirectly lead to innovation, global viewpoints, new ideas and potential profits,” Spurgeon says.
