COSTI Immigrant Services is a community-based multicultural agency providing employment, educational, refugee services, settlement and social services to all immigrant communities, new Canadians, and individuals in need of assistance since 1952. We operate out of 18 locations in the City of Toronto, the Region of Peel and York Region. COSTI provides a service in more than 60 languages. COSTI has been part of TRIEC Mentoring Partnership (TMP) since the program has been made available for Newcomers to benefit from in 2005.
The mentoring guidance and mentors dedication to assisting newcomers navigating the local labour market and strategize their job search and networking efforts has resulted in securing employment faster, at a higher level of salary for permanent positions in roles commensurate with the mentees’ international expertise.
The testimonials from mentees attest to the life changing impact of being occupations-specific connected with Canadian Professionals dedicated to sharing knowledge, expertise, winning job searching and career development strategies as well as doors-opening networking opportunities.
The most celebrated successes happen when the partnerships are ended prior to the 3-month official commitment. The mentor becomes managers to the mentees or teammates and continue their professional connection in the workplace environment while the mentor becomes available to take on new matches to help successfully navigate the local labour and career development market. When mentees themselves return to the program as mentors, the impact on the newcomers professional community and society is to be celebrated even more.
TMP partners pride in having built throughout the years sustainable and winning relationships with established mentors from a multitude of professions that continuously provide guidance, their wealth of expertise and professional connection to newcomers professionals in the process of reconnecting with their international careers. Securing and retaining commensurate employment as well as career planning have been the building principles of all the mentoring partnerships; as a Community Partner working directly with newcomers on all aspects of their relocation to Canada, integrating the occupation-specific mentoring in the plan of action has been proved to yield access to sustainable employment faster, build the sense of belonging and strengthening the New Canadian identity.
Let’s connect newcomer professionals with their mentoring peers and help integrate all international talent and skills in our teams and businesses.
