What motivates you to keep coming back as a mentor?
I continuously engage as a mentor to share my expertise, knowledge, and experiences with aspiring individuals, guiding them towards achieving their goals and unlocking their full potential in their respective fields.
What would be your top tip for a new volunteer mentor?
Actively listen to mentees, empathize with their challenges, and provide guidance and support tailored to their individual needs and aspirations. I learned in the last 8 years that all new mentees come from diverse backgrounds, countries, cultures and are talented. We just need to guide them in the right direction.
What has been your top aha mentoring moment?
It was witnessing a mentee successfully implement the strategies we discussed and witnessing their growth and progress firsthand, reaffirming the impact of mentorship on personal and professional development. I am still in touch with one of my mentees, Mayan Saker, who joined the program 6 years ago. She keeps me updated about her career and growth. I am so proud of her!
Has becoming a mentor also helped you succeed in your own career? If so, how?
Indeed, becoming a mentor has contributed significantly to my own career success by fostering leadership skills, expanding my professional network, and gaining fresh perspectives from mentees, enhancing my abilities as a software enthusiast.
In one sentence, describe the importance of mentoring for newcomers starting their career in Canada?
Mentorship serves as a crucial guiding light for newcomers starting their careers in Canada. Providing invaluable support, advice, and networking opportunities that accelerate their integration into the workforce and empower them to navigate unfamiliar territories effectively.
